"At Mama's Italian Restaurant, a comfortably retro-looking pizzeria-trattoria, I requested and immediately got a gluten-free menu. My gluten-free bread, served toasted, was moist and almost cake-like within, far superior to the supermarket-quality Italian loaf other diners got. An appetizer of clams bianco featured plump shellfish in a garlicky white wine sauce. I was struck by how light the eggplant Parmigiana was, breaded with gluten-free crumbs and served with gluten-free ziti in a chunky tomato sauce. Dessert was rice pudding, creamy and cinnamon-dusted."
